English
Our vision is that by the end of primary school, children will be fluent in reading, writing and spoken language, with the necessary skills and knowledge to be confidently literate.
Children will develop life-long reading habits and a love of reading and literature. Reading will be an accessible, fluent act that offers a great deal of pleasure, whilst simultaneously offering a vital tool to learn. Making sure that children become engaged with reading from the beginning is, therefore, one of the most important ways to make a difference to their understanding. We want our children to have a positive attitude towards communicating about their reading and, through talk, build conceptual understanding, ideas and feelings for their personal development and as building blocks for writing.
Reading is the master skill that allows access to the curriculum and exposes children to ideas, vocabulary, and knowledge beyond their day-to-day life experiences. Children will become more proficient and knowledgeable in all subjects through academic reading.
Our reading curriculum strives to foster a life-long love of reading. We know that reading for pleasure is beneficial not only for reading outcomes but for wider learning enjoyment and mental well-being.
